First Time Witness

Recent sightings of this hedge that is putting on a spectacular display of WOW.

As many times that I have past plantings like this, I've never knew them to change colors like if

it was some type of Pepper corns.      Which they are not, not , not.      So don't get any ideas.

This This...

Orchid bloom. Words don't always come forth as this spray of flowers that never fail to grace

my collection.

Purity and Refinement

Imagine if we had a Moon in the sky that looked like this Gardenia and if it were a reality, would

we still be amazed or blase about it, like some might be with our own moon.

This Winter bloomer never ceases to amaze me.    Bloom on, bloom on.

Ever Wonder If You Were Being Watched Over

Just ask these two Angels. That's two ,the third one is still in training.

It's A Jungle Out There

and these two froglets know it.   Don't ask me to point them out to you. They need to blend in

if you know what I mean.  They don't want to be 'Garden Gummies' if you get my drift.

First Recipients of a Winter Detailing

Just a headsup, I will be experimenting with this writing with using their botanical Latin names

to see if I can learn their designated botanical nom de plumes...hehe. Along with a generic descriptor

in what ever these things are called '    '.    Yeah , I know, right.

I also got finished with detailing my neighbor's backyard garden. So was inspired and psyched

and was buzzing with the same vibe and let loose on my garden to see what transpires

As we gardeners know, there is always something that could be done in our garden.

This Dietes vegeta, 'Iris' blooms several times during the year and looks great when

the dead stuff is removed. Most specimens that lack that regular maintenance, well, look it

and have many people that are amazed that it doesn't look like theirs. Well hello, most of

gardening requires the maintenance, whether it's weeding, thinning, pruning and removing

the dead stuff.      These Irises make great subjects for a Moon garden.

Take in the different textures of green in the above picture.

Neoregelia spectabilis 'Bromeliad' is loooooooooking really fine.
Profile please.  (Blogger's spartan formatting is making it's self known)
Dark and mysterious side prevails.

One of many advantages of detailing a garden is you give it the eye that detailing requires

and you spot things that you might not see when you casually peruse the garden. The

Stromanthe sanguinea 'Ginger' had a side shoot that was jamming my detail eye, if you

will. So the only solution would be to remove the offending interloper that causes your

eye to pause and can't seem to move on until this minor discrepancy is resolved. In kicks

the critical thinking and resolving the issues. Where this negative is now a challenge that

will be turned into a positive to beautiful specimen that will once again shine, shine, shine.

Let it shine baby!

It looks it has always been there and know one will ever know the difference.

I like to give my transplants a daily watering for two weeks, then they are on their own.  Well  not

really, most of my transplant waterings can last a longer than that, depending on how well I sighted

this specimen, the specimen itself and multiple factors and the time of year. Again, this is but another

page in the joys of gardening whether you like it or not. I just happen to

enjoy the constant gardening that goes

hand in hand with, well

gardening.

The Last of the Season Fav

These Summer Sandwich tomatoes, this Winter were great and the acid in them bit my tongue.

I still have to do some internet crawling to find out what factors, whether external or not governs

a tomato's acid zip.

First Grade Inspiration

How many of you have had the grade school opportunity start some props from store bought

veggies? Such as carrots and potatoes?

This Baby Bok Choy has grown into teenager, as shown in this picture.

And I were to post a picture of it today, weeks later, it now looks like an adult bok choy.

Something has already tasted this and it must of been good, because a few leaves have been

nearly munched clean away.

Also , buried under the top soil is a favorite tomato of mind as an experiment. I just sliced

a rather over ripe in two and buried them open side down and then covered them. Due to the

cooler temps during our almost Winter season, it took a bit more than just a few days to

sprout.

Time will tell ...took it's time to reveal two patches of sprouted seeds...yeah, yeah!

Coontie Cycad's New Beginings

These seeds are a bit of a fuss. Soaking that was advised did very little in getting these seeds

naked. I did use rubber gloves to avoid any possibility in having a reaction in handling these

obnoxious fruits.

Hopefully they will be fruitful in their producing some new Coonties which could take months.

All together now ....          Time     will     tell.

New Dragons Abound

Three new ones at the High Tower the mother of all of my Crape Myrtles.

Side yard Dragons, two faces, front and back. The second picture faces my window ...yeah!

Two peeping Dragons. I will have to check tomorrow to see if I placed one on the other side

to make it three.

Bigger Palm of the two gets three dragons , oops, that makes four Dragons for the bigger

palm. How fitting.

Latest Potted Prop

This cactus prop has Bonsai written all over it's spiny face. Pumice rock from my neighbor's

garden after detailing it yesterday. This prop sat for about four days to scab over and when I

saw sitting there pretty, I jumped to the next step in potting it up and now it looks even prettier,

if that was even possible.         Gotta love them props.

Come On Baby Light My...

My water less grotto now has lights, oh and two Galaxy Hopping Vortexes or just GHV.

For the unawares, just don't go traveling on a full stomach.

Got the idea to light up this new instillation and with what lights I had on hand this

afternoon while strolling through my yard.

All is takes is that first spark.

Today's Garden Do's

Nothing set in concrete, although I must admit that yesterdays' screen door repair might have

planted that seed, of what can I repair and with no intentions other than to see what plants could

use a drink of rainwater.  Can't say fresh rainwater other than it's better collected recently in the

past month...or so. I can guarantee that the water is still wet.

First things first. There were some branches from a flowering cactus that got knock off from

a gust of wind that had blown the plant off it's pedestal (rain barrel) sort of speak. I noticed

that the now official now cuttings were beginning to form roots at the broken ends, an indication

that they to still have life and want to continue on their  life of leisure.

Instead of disrupting the parent plant anymore than it has already. I thought I would just re pot

the cuttings in a separate pot and thus a happy reunion.       Separate, but together.

                                                          The void has been filled.

Today's Observation

These are the kind of observation that catches my eye for whatever reason.

This this...

Ebony ZZ plant lives up to it's many a common name. With some new green growth

at it's core is what probably struck that note in today's walk through. You only

have to keep your ears open and that chatter in your head on low.

                                                                           Be dazzled!

From Cutting To

 this in two years!

Two sets of seven softwood Jasmine cuttings were taken in Sep2019.

Out of the fourteen cuttings only one made that transition.

Sometimes you just have to give it a try and time does the rest.

My Three Buddies

Perhaps another southern native . This Crinum flowers many times a year and while the growing

season in central Florida is slowing down we can still be graced with some blooming

bloomers.

Florida Native

This primitive Whisk fern is showing off it's spore sacs all a glow with a sunny yellow.

Triangle Leaf Ficus

The cutting up top was taken from it's brother plant below before they cam in fruit.

Being in a watery captivity did not alter it's fruiting.

Speaking Of Christmas Cactus

It's getting close to this cactus's blooming season/cycle.

What Do You See

besides the obvious two white feathers?

I acquired this potted  Christmas cactus as a rescue. If your like me and see somethings

that your mind gives you a pause, here in front of eyes is a good example.

In this case I noticed a upside down leaf pattern on one stem. Someone, who will remain

nameless has stuck a cutting in the ground upside down and it has grown a shoot that knew

which way was up and grew accordingly.

Don't make me point out this anomaly out to you. You just have to look a bit closer and with a

discerning eye.

New Bro

This bromeliad comes with a name to, 'Burgundy'.

                                                               Welcome Bro!

Some Garden Graffitti?

                                         Morse code of alien origin?

There are stanzas running up or some would say down this Bald Cypress tree.

I suspect a winged creature known in these parts, lets all say it together...

YELLOW   BELLIED   SAP   SUCKER    What?

Two Sculptural Cacti Beauties

Whose origins are from props taken with permission, from a generous fellow gardener that resides

in my neighborhood about a year and a half ago.

Today I gave them an chiropractor's adjustment that gives them more lateral

posturing that you are now witnessing.

Along with their sibling like leanings, as one looks upon another, hoping that when I grow up...

(fill in the blank)

Two Year Old Summer Sandwich Tomato Miracle

No only is tomato variety at the top of my list for Florida grown tomatoes. I think this

baby should get an award for the longest lived. Growing in plants in Florida can encourages

one to push a plant to it's limits and some do better than others.

I don't think that dog years even goes near to what this plant is experiencing at the moment.

Last harvest?

No doubt that the nematodes are choking out roots ability to bring nourishment up to

it's narrowed and possibly arthritic Phloem and Xylem tubular tissues. Ha, I still remember

those botany lessons from high school science class and no arthritic was not in the lesson plan.

Thank you, to the late and passionate science teacher Mr. Robert J Gasiorowski.

What A Difference A Year Makes...Jackfruit Tree

While this munchkin is topping out at just above five feet as of August 2020. Not bad

for a nearly one year old that I started from seed. The best of three that one this prize

spot in my yard for it's available sunshine.

Too this!

Topping out at three times the height in fifteen months.

I swear I didn't acquire the seeds from what's his name, Jack

yeah, from Jack and the Beanstalk.

Needless to say, that I won't be putting Christmas lights on this baby like I did last year.

Unless I had a drone or two for assistance.

November Props Snap

 Dragonettes are looking sinuous.

Orchid cactus cuttings are looking really stressed.

Tads are thriving in my Arctic Circle twenty-four seven lighting.

You know those tricks where they pull the tablecloth out from it's table settings? Close your eyes!

Some minor changes, besides the obvious one.

Will be starting on a new project and I like a change of scenery to keep the new vibe

going.

Another form of version of out with the old and in with the new.

Who Knew

Always on the prowl for something new, whether it be new plants or new food.

Well, I thought I spied some Fava beans at my local grocers.

Lupini beans, pickled in brine...who knew.

My grocer didn't have the frozen quinoa variation with the the other Italian beans, so these

Lupinis were a nice change and yes ,this dish tastes as good as it looks.

Change Of Water

with some fresh spinach greens to boot.  These weeks old Tads never had it so good.

Along with some Hikari Fancy Guppy food, these Tads can't believe their luck.

Guess Who Came To Dinner

Certainly not my most bizarre uninvited guest. Florida does have it's unique menagerie

of wildlife.  This is not only brazen and bold, with nary a flinch when I turned on the light.

With plenty of time to find me a fitting container to trap this beast and it's still sitting here

with it's sly grin.

It's been a while since I took a walk with my visiting yard cat to give this creature a more

fitting place to live.

Something New In Bloom

There's no mistaking this little shrimp, Dwarf Mexican Petunia for the standard fair. It always

makes me smile when I see this in bloom. I almost wrote, it gives me a smile. Yes indeed, it

just gave me a smile,  such a gift.      Thank you!

Tree Of Life

My potted Afrocarpus , technically a tree, but alas pot bound for several years. Has of late been host to

some new garden occupants. Not only to the regulars that I've seen and who knows to what else that

I haven't seen.

Here are the two most recent critters from this urban homestead.

I believe this little guy is one of our own Florida Black Rat snake and I like to think that word got

out that there are some fresh garden gummies (new frogs) to be had. This was taken sometime

in the early hours, like after midnight and the cafe is open. I just let loose one or two a few hours

ago, not seeing or noticing if there was a snake of all things lurking around in a tree, who knew.

To my surprise, it's still there, probably really PO'd that this is not the all your can eat frog

cafe.

Needless to say I changed my venue for fresh frog releases.

Because....

Another newbie, probably also heard that there was some fresh bites up here. First time I'm

seeing a frog with red suspenders. Luckily for this frog, this morning's black snake took a hike

elsewhere.

Who said there's nothing new to found, all you have to do is open your eyes and stay curious.

A New Batch Of Frogs

I believe this froglet is giving me the flaming blue finger. Ha!

From spacious condo sized pickle jar digs, downsized to a one room efficiency garden

variety glass terrarium apartment for better water management.

 These frogs got

launched to the great Florida urban outdoors, yesterday. There were three

brave souls released on their own cognizance.

Your living space just grew exponentially.
