More Scenes From A Winter's Near Garden

This crested grafted cactus is still cresting. Not only that, all awhile it's feet
standing in water. Who would of thought that the two go together .

While this two toed glamor puss gets a limb cut. Ever since it got blown over in a
no-name wind storm several years back. It's never been able to anchor it's self by
establishing a solid root system, thereby making it's self a great candidate to
becoming a macro-bonsai and staying forever young.

Pot Them Up

The top device is a yogurt maker that hasn't seen the likes in decades. It makes
for a great seed starter though. Just planted five Jackfruit seeds in toilet paper
roles and plugged it in to incubate until they sprout. Hopefully.

While the rest of the seeds get steamed to perfection. First time preparation and
as you can see from the picture that there remains a coating that has to be peeled
off before eaten. The results are surprisingly fragrant and textured like a
hard cheese, who knew.

Harvest Time

Got my hands on a ripe Jackfruit and just finished harvesting it's seeds
and got a taste of it's fruit. Just found out that I'm not a fan of the ripened
stage, but will be able to plant some of the seed and then steam the remaining
seed for consumption.

Going to set some aside to dry and see if they are a good candidate for beads.

Another Good Sign

Second bloom blooming and a good indication that cutting has finally took.
Will leave the lid off for a couple of hours a day to get it acclimated and see
if it truly has taken root and not just it's last show before it's death.

There Was Two...

bio domes, with about fourteen cuttings amongst them taken a week apart.

These last Jasmine cuttings are down to first set of cuttings. Along with some
of the ubiquitous fern volunteers. The ones to the left of center are goners,
that have developed the tell tale yellowing of the leave's central vein.

The promising hope is the cuttings to the left. No sign of yellowing. Mind
you theses cuttings hung on since the last week of September this year.

The big surprise is the seed pod development. I'm told by the owner of this
specimen that it does does spread from seed.

The act of propagating may have triggered it's survival mode, therefore it's
survival mode is kicking in over drive. That would be funny if this cutting
will do all it can do to produce a viable seed just on the sustainable environment
it is in. As in, look Ma!...no roots. Drop seed and then sprout me some mutant,
kill me if you can that takes over the planet, whew ...I digress.

Ta Da! Two-- Another Cacao Bloom

This season may not bring hundreds of blooms, but I settle for two.

As was the other discovery, just misting this about as it basks in the indoor
sameness that the outdoors lacks. Now an all too familiar bloom comes into
my sight once again.

This big specimen was started from a cane this past Spring.
So in less than six months this went from cutting to ground.
Behind this there's another begonia cutting prop that got in to
ground in less than two months.

What A Compfy Gardener's Throne This Would Make

Open Sesame - Cacao Is Bloomin' - Day Eight?

Although short lived  and what appears to be not only the first bloom but the one
and only bloom.

All of it's reproductive parts looks as complicated as the actual process of making
cacao.

This makes me want to delve in and do some research to just what it is that I am
looking at and distinguish from what's what. The first picture has some type of
fluid sacs for starters.

Truly a monumental event in this constant gardener's gardening life.

Ta Da! -- Cacao Is Bloomin'

This was taken in July 2015, already had it for a month.

To this, November 2019.

Brought this indoors with anticipating temperatures below sixty degrees.
While inspecting for good health and what do I spy?

A single bloom, soon to be two as of yesterday.  Just now looking at this pic
at a closer scrutiny and I see two more emerging off of this stem just left and
up a it.

Now the next big step is will be to see just how viable these blossoms are and
may require manually pollinating, no pressure.
