You Ever Feel That Your Being Watched?

You probably are and the ones you know of, you can multiply that by tens if not hundreds.

Here we have three eyes that I have witnessed from my back steps of my house while enjoying
my first meal.

The single eyed looking lizard, for starters. There is
no telling when it's first meal was but, from what I've seen it has been a couple of
snacks already.

The neighbors cat taking refuge from the sun and just past noon heat.

Also a frequent guest at the watering hole that have which, has been host to not
only the domestics but all the wild life. I've seen both possum and raccoon.

She has just come away off from of the Big Slurp.

Red Ribbon Half Marathon - Farmers Market Downtown

I knew that it was going to be a challenge this morning, not only finding a parking
space but to navigate around the numerous barricades, due to this mornings foot
races.

The navigating reminds me of the time while in the service and a buddy of mine
and myself entered a road rally. By buddy drove his Datsun 2+2, very much like
this one.

This one is more likely the 2+2 with the extended rear.

I was the navigator and we placed something like eleventh out of thirty five entrants.

So instead of being frustrated, I took the challenge and joined the rest of the morning's
commuters that are challenged too. There hasn't been street near downtown that I haven't
already seen either by day or night.

You could hear the cheers as some of the runners cross the finish line across the lake. Along
with the sounds of the freight train running through the downtown, makes this downtown
still that viable collection of community that has so often been longed for and at times is
still the exception.

Although tree lined as you can see, the heat was beginning to build and it is not even nine thriry
in the morning. I purchased my still novelty serving of small batch Gingered Kumbacha.

Typical temperatures, but I was feeling for the runners every time the sun peeked
out of the clouds. There were half marathoners, 5K and children's run. Something
for everyone, just not me. I'll stick to my bicycle and evening hour walks around
our neighborhood lake.

When's the last time you seen a gaggle or a mob of Statue of Liberties? I had
to ask who might be the real Statue of Liberty. The one who is smiling and wearing
the unauthorized pair of eyeglasses raised her hand. As for the dude, well so much
for authenticity and it's not even tax time yet.

See below for map of run.

This course covers pretty much all
the diversity as in varied elevations
that this city has.

Bravo to those that dared.

How Green Is My Salad - Yesterday's First Meal

Eggplant Marinara with spinach
and Cashews.

It shouldn't be long before I eat my
first homegrown Eggplant.

Ode To The Lowly Iceberg Lettuce - First Meal - Let's Hear It For Vito's

Oh Iceberg Iceberg where aft you been? I aft not seen you, nor aft thought
of you. Until spotted and like that comment, "I didn't know so and so was
still a live".  I didn't know people still eat that pale cousin to the infinate
colorful selection and a bit more nutrient dense.

Your paleness could have been
blinding had I shot this in the late
mornings sunlight.

A whole head of your crispy crunch
fills out this meal along a memory
sensory of BLT's, hamburgers,Taco's
and Pizza salads.

Vito's Italian restaurant of forty years, long
since closed, had this phenomenal wilted Italian
dressed Iceberg lettuce based salad that to me was
highlight of the meal.

I just learned today that Vito's son, chef
and co-owner of this restaurant died this year
in March.

Quick, put on your sun glasses, I'm about to reveal the sun blinding Iceberg lettuce.

Can't say I didn't warn yah!

I hope all that sun exposure didn't burn off what remained of what nutrients that were there.

Tour In The Circle B Bar Tram

To the trained eye there would have been a bounty of wildlife to see.

To me I relied on our guide and the other four newbies like me to
spy the wildlife and anything that might stir.

Perched Bald Eagle, probably watching us watching it. Great Blue
Herons always with the majestic landing and take offs that can be
breath taking. Cattle Egrets in their snowy white plumage  that could
of gone extinct from being hunted for their prized feathers. The abundant
wild flowers, both native and invasive. Who says that nature is always
natural?

Two waiting water birds. Waiting
for what you may ask? For their
little slice of nature to return to
some sense of familiarity without the
man made perches that they have
come accustom and more than willing
to adopt as you can see.

There will be no erasing man's presense
on this wild life refuge. From once a natural
habitat, however far back in time, one would
have to have gone. Then to a cattleman's ranch,
hence, the Circle B Bar moniker. Thanks to that
cattleman generosity and to my knowledge the hoops
he had to go through to bring us this jewel of
a reserve in close proximity. Will be the closest we
and a many of our next generation will get to
see some native and and migrating wild
life.

This will have to do in this day in the name of development vs. conservation.
